A special place in the history of the development of organ art in Armenia belongs to the International Vahagn Stamboltsyan Organ Festival, at the origins of which stands Armen Sukiasyan — Deputy Artistic Director of the National Center of Chamber Music, founder and artistic director of the festival. Thanks to his consistant work together with Garegin Sargsyan, Director of the National Center  of Chamber Music, an initiative has been realized that today has become not only an important concert platform, but an educational and cultural one as well.

The festival is named after  the name of the great organist and pedagogue, People's Artist of Armenia, Vahagn Stambօltsyan. Years ago, Stamboltsyan dreamed of launching an international organ festival in Armenia, aiming to spread and popularize this unique form of  art more widely. Being extremely modest, he had asked that the future festival not bear his name. However, when the moment came to realize the initiative, it was decided to name it after the great master as a sign of gratitude and high esteem.

Vahagn Stamboltsyan made an huge contribution to the development of Armenian organ art. He is the founder -one could say the patriarch - of the organ school in Armenia. Through his efforts, organs were installed in Charentsavan, Kapan, and several concert halls in Yerevan, shaping the living cultural presence of the instrument and laying the foundation for the formation of a professional educational environment.

The idea of  the festival  was finally formed in 2011–2012, as the result of extansive  discussions. In 2020, the project was submitted to the RA Ministry of Education, Science, Culture and Sport and was approved. Although its realization was temporarily delayed due to the war and the pandemic, the initiative remained viable and ultimately succeeded - proving the strength of cultural will and dedication.

Within the framework of the festival, distinguished organists have come to Armenia – prominant musicians from Russia, France, Spain, the Netherlands, and other countries. Their participation has raised the festival's international standing and brought new life to Armenia's musical life.

Years ago, when individual organ concerts were being organized, a shortage of audience members was a serious problem. This circumstance became one of the key motivations festival for founding the. The goal was not only to promote organ art, but also to preserve and develop it — cultivating an audience and creating a stable cultural environment.

Today the picture has changed. An active organ life has formed, and there is now an eager, interested audience. The festival contributes to the preservation and development of the Armenian organ school, as well as to the expansion of international cooperation. It has long since become not only an important concert platform, but an educational one as well — offering masterclasses, professional discussions, and opportunities for exchange of experience.

Organ art in Armenia is experiencing a new revival today, and along this path, the name of Vahagn Stamboltsyan continues to resound as a symbol of tradition, dedication, and development.
